| 23. Linguistic Exegesis The verse opens with the conditional particle im {אִם | ʾim} ‘if’, establishing a protasis. The direct object of taaseh {תַּעֲשֶׂה | taʿăśeh} ‘you will do’ is marked by the particle et {אֶת־ | ʾeṯ}, introducing ha-davar ha-zeh {הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה | had-dā-ḇār haz-zēh} ‘this matter’. The Piel perfect in ve-tsivvecha {וְצִוְּךָ | wə-ṣiwwəḵā} ‘and He commanded you’ conveys decisive divine commissioning by Elohim {אֱלֹהִים | ʾĕ-lō-hîm}. In the result clause ve-yakholta ʿamod {וְיָכָלְתָּ עֲמֹד | wə-yākhal-tā ʿămōḏ} ‘and you will be able to stand’, the perfect verb of ability pairs with an infinitive of endurance. The conjunction ve-gam {וְגַם | wə-gam} ‘and also’ extends the promise to kol ha-am ha-zeh {כָּל־הָעָם הַזֶּה | kol-hā-ʿām haz-zēh} ‘all these people’. The phrase al mekomo yavo {עַל־מְקֹמ֖וֹ יָבֹא | ʿal mə-qō-mō yāḇōʾ} employs a distributive singular form ‘their place’ to indicate each person’s arrival. The closing be-shalom {בְשָׁלוֹם | bə-šālōm} ‘in peace’ affirms secure settlement. |
