Exodus 19:10ExegesisTAB

Exodus 19 : 10 Consecration | Preparation | Purity
10. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse employs the wayyiqtol construction vayomer {וַיֹּאמֶר | wayyoʾmer} to introduce divine speech, with Yahweh {יְהוָה | Yəhōwāh} as the speaker. The preposition ʼel {אֶל | ʾel} with mosheh {מֹשֶׁה | mōšeh} ‘to Moses’ marks the mediation role. The Qal imperative lekh {לֵךְ | lēk} ‘go’ takes the prepositional object ʼel haʿam {אֶל־הָעָם | ʾel-hāʿām} ‘to the people’. The Piel perfect veqiddashtam {וְקִדַּשְׁתָּם | wəqiddāštām} issues the sanctification command over a two-day span, introduced by the temporal nouns hayyom {הַיּוֹם | hayyōm} and ūmaḥar {וּמָחָר | ū-māḥār}. The final Piel perfect vekhibbesu simlotam {וְכִבְּסוּ שִׂמְלֹתָם | wəḵibbəsû śimlōtām} prescribes washing garments as preparatory rite.
