Ezekiel 21:27ExegesisTAB

Ezekiel 21 : 27 · WLC 21:32 Judgment | Restoration | Sovereignty
27. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse’s tripled repetition of avvah {עַוָּה | ʿavvāh} intensifies the announcement of catastrophe through parallelism. The verb asimenah {אָשִׂימֶנָּה | ʾāśîmennāh} in the Hiphil imperfect with cohortative nun conveys divine resolve to enact this overturning. The phrase gam-zot {גַּם־זֹּאת | gam-zōt} ‘also this’ broadens the scope of judgment, while the negative lo hayah {לֹא הָיָה | lōʾ hāyāh} signifies the end of the prior order. The construct ad-bo {עַד־בֹּא | ʿad-bōʾ} with the relative clause asher-lo {אֲשֶׁר־לּוֹ | ʾăšer-lō} (‘until the coming of the one to whom it belongs’) sets the timeline for the rightful claimant’s arrival, and the final ûnəṯattîw lo {וּנְתַתִּיו לֽוֹ | ûnəṯattîw lō} affirms the subsequent bestowal. The structure moves from destruction to promised restoration.
