17. Formal Translation For the flesh desires against the Spirit {pneuma, Sanctifying Power}, but the Spirit against the flesh. For these are opposed to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. |
17. Dynamic Translation What our human nature desires is set against the Spirit {pneuma, Empowering Presence}, and the Spirit is opposed to what our human nature desires. These forces are at odds with each other, so that you do not do the very things you want to do. |
