Exegesis

The compound ha-amah hazot {הָאָמָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את | hā-ʾā-māh haz-zōṯ} ‘this maidservant’ uses a near demonstrative to dehumanize Hagar.

The phrase ben-ha-amah hazot {בֶּן־הָאָמָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את | ben-hā-ʾā-māh haz-zōṯ} ‘son of this maidservant’ repeats the disparagement, omitting the child’s name.

In contextGenesis 21:10

So she said to Abraham, “Drive out the maidservant —this one—and her son, for the son of this maidservant will not inherit together with my son, with Isaac.”
