Habakkuk 2:19:2אֹמֵ֤רomersaying Habakkuk 2:19:3לָעֵץ֙laetsto the wood or tree Habakkuk 2:19:4הָקִ֔יצָהhakitsaawake Habakkuk 2:19:5ע֖וּרִיuriarise Habakkuk 2:19:6לְאֶ֣בֶןleevento a stone Habakkuk 2:19:7דּוּמָ֑םdumamsilent Habakkuk 2:19:8ה֣וּאhuit Habakkuk 2:19:9יוֹרֶ֔הyorewill teach or instruct Habakkuk 2:19:10הִנֵּה־ה֗וּאhinnehubehold it Habakkuk 2:19:11תָּפוּשׂ֙tafusis overlaid or seized Habakkuk 2:19:12זָהָ֣בzahavgold Habakkuk 2:19:13וָכֶ֔סֶףvakhesefand silver Habakkuk 2:19:14וְכָל־ר֖וּחַvekholruakhand any breath or spirit Habakkuk 2:19:15אֵ֥יןenthere is not Habakkuk 2:19:16בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃bekirboin its midst or within it
19. Formal Translation
Woe to the one who says to the wood, “Awake!” and to the silent stone, “Arise!” Can it instruct? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, but there is no breath at all within it.
19. Dynamic Translation
Disaster comes to anyone who tells the wood, “Wake up!” or says to a lifeless stone, “Arise!” Can it teach? See, it is covered with gold and silver, yet no spirit is inside.
