Exegesis

The asyndetic sequence ‘ārôm ve-yāḥēp̄ {עָרוֹם וְיָחֵף | ‘ārôm wə-yā-ḥēp̄} ‘naked and barefoot’ intensifies the humiliation, while the appositional va-ḥǎsū-p̄āy šêṯ {וַחֲשׂוּפַ֥י שֵׁת | wa-ḥǎsū-p̄āy šêṯ} ‘with uncovered buttocks’ adds graphic imagery.
