Isaiah 61TAB

The Spirit of the Lord GOD {YHWH Adonai: Sovereign Sender} rests upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the humble; He has commissioned me to wrap up the brokenhearted {nishberei-lev: shattered heart}, to announce freedom to captives, and release from confinement to those who are bound.

To proclaim the LORD’s {YHWH, Divine Restorer} year of favor, and the day when our God {Eloheinu, Righteous Avenger} brings vengeance; to bring comfort to all who mourn.

To appoint as adornment for Zion’s mourners a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; and He will designate them as oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD {YHWH, Glory Revealer}, for the display of His splendor {pe'er: visible majesty}.

They will rebuild the ancient {olam: long-lasting} ruins; they will raise up the former desolations; and they will restore the ruined cities, the desolations {shomemot: devastated places} that span generation after generation.

Strangers {zarim: foreign residents} will stand ready and pasture your flocks, and the sons of foreigners will do your plowing and your vinedressing {kormei-khem: vineyard workers}.

But you will be called priests of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Sovereign}, and you will be named ministers of our God {Eloheinu, Covenant Guardian}. You will partake of the strength {kheil: external resources} of the nations, and you will exult in their honor.

In place of your shame, you will receive a double portion; and in place of disgrace, you will rejoice over your share. Therefore, within your land you will inherit a double portion; everlasting joy {simchat: communal celebration} will be yours {olam: unending}.

For I, the LORD {YHWH, Justice-Lover}, love justice {mishpat: true judgment}; I hate robbery in burnt offering, and I will give them their reward in truth and make an everlasting covenant with them.

Their seed will be recognized among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples; everyone who sees them will acknowledge that they are the seed whom the LORD {YHWH, Blessing Bestower} has blessed {berakh: pronounced fortunate}.

I will rejoice greatly in the LORD {YHWH, Joy-Giver} and my soul will exult in my God {Elohai, Covenant Sustainer}, for He has clothed me with garments of salvation and covered me with a robe of righteousness, like a bridegroom who adorns himself with a beautiful headdress, like a priest in splendor, and like a bride adorned with her jewels.

For as the earth brings up its growth, and as a garden makes what was sown in it spring up, so the Lord GOD {Adonai YHWH, Sovereign Nurturer} will cause righteousness {tzedakah: covenant faithfulness} and praise to spring up in the sight of all the nations.
