Exegesis

The adversative ve-’ānōkhî lo-shelakhtîm ve-lō tsivvîtîm {וְאָנֹכִ֨י לֹֽא־שְׁלַחְתִּ֜ים וְלֹ֣א צִוִּיתִ֗ים | wə·’ā·nō·ḵî lō·šə·laḥ·tîm wə·lō ṣiw·wî·ṯîm} ‘yet I did not send them nor command them’ asserts divine disavowal, and the Hiphil infinitive absolute ve-hō‘êl {וְהוֹעֵ֛יל | wə·hō·ʿêl} with imperfect lō-yō‘îlū {לֹֽא־יוֹעִ֥ילוּ | lō·yō·ʿî·lū} ‘and they will not profit’ states the outcome. The closing ne’um-YHWH reaffirms divine authority.
