Exegesis

The causal hoti {ὅτι | hóti} clause explains the sorrow by linking it to the arrival of her hōra {ὥρα | hṓra}, her critical and appointed moment.

Dia {διὰ | diá} with the accusative tēn charan {τὴν χαρὰν | tḕn charán} supplies the reason for the reversal, and the final hoti {ὅτι | hóti} clause gives the content of that joy: egenethe anthrōpos eis ton kosmon {ἐγεννήθη ἄνθρωπος εἰς τὸν κόσμον | egennḗthē ánthrōpos eis tòn kósmon}. The verse moves from pain to joy through a carefully balanced temporal contrast.
