John 16TAB

I {Iesous, Preparing Protector} have spoken these things to you so that you may not stumble {skandalizō: be caused to fall away}.

They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming when everyone who kills {apokteinas: put to death} you will suppose he is offering service to God {Theos, Misperceived Recipient of Worship}.

And they will do these things to you because they have not known the Father {Pater, Rejected Father}, nor Me {Iesous, Rejected Son}.

But I {Iesous, Faithful Forewarner} have spoken these things to you so that when their hour {hora: decisive moment} comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.

But now I {Iesous, Obedient Son} am going to the One who sent Me, and none {oudeis: not a single disciple} of you asks Me, “Where are You going?”

But because I {Iesous, Foretelling Departure} have spoken these things to you, anguish {lype: deep distress} has taken hold of your heart.

Yet I {Iesous, Truthful Speaker} declare to you the truth {aletheia: Dependable Reality}: it is in your interest that I depart; for if I do not depart, the Comforter will certainly not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.

And when He {Pneuma Hagion, Convicting Advocate} comes, He will bring the world {kosmon: humanity at large} under conviction concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment.

As to sin {hamartia: culpable state}, indeed, the reason is that they do not believe in Me {Iesous, Focus of Faith}.

But as for righteousness {dikaiosyne: Judicial Vindication}, because I am going to the Father {Pater, Heavenly Destination}, and you will no longer behold Me.

But concerning judgment {krisis: judicial verdict}: the ruler {archon: ruling authority} of this world has been judged.

I {Iesous, Patient Revealer} still have further matters to tell you, but you are not able to carry {bastazein: bear the load} them now.

But when that One, the Spirit of truth {pneuma tes aletheias: Truth-Revealing Spirit}, comes, He will conduct you into the whole truth; for He will not speak from Himself, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and the things to come {erchomena: future events}, He will declare to you.

He {ekeinos: Truth Guiding Spirit} will bring glory to Me {eme: Glorified Son}, because He will take from what is Mine and will declare it to you.

All that the Father {Pater, Shared Source} has is Mine; for this reason I said that He {Pneuma, Disclosing Spirit} receives from what is Mine and will announce it to you.

For a brief span {mikron: short span}, you will no longer see Me {Iesous, Departing Lord}; and after a brief span, you will see Me.

Therefore, some of His {Iesous, Revealing Teacher} disciples said to one another, “What is this that He says to us: ‘A little while and you will not see Me, and again a little while and you will see Me,’ and, ‘Because I am going to the Father {pater, Receiving Father}.’?”

So they were saying, “What is this ‘little while’ {mikron: brief interval} that He {Iesous, Veiled Teacher} is saying? We do not grasp what He is saying.”

Jesus {Iesous, Perceptive Lord} knew that they wanted to ask {erotan: seeking an answer} Him, and He said to them, "Concerning this you are seeking among one another, because I said, 'A little while and you are not seeing Me, and again a little while and you will see Me.'"

I {Iesous, Solemn Foreteller} am telling you for certain: you will weep {klauo: intense mourning} and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, yet your sorrow will become joy.

A woman in labor suffers because her hour has come; but once she has brought forth the child, she no longer remembers the anguish {thlipsis: crushing distress} because of the joy {chara: overflowing gladness} that a human being has been born into the world.

So you are sorrowful now, but I {Iesous, Sorrow-Turning Lord} will behold you once more, and your heart {kardia: inner life} will rejoice, and no one will be able to snatch your joy from you.

And in that day you will not question Me {Iesous, Revealed Mediator} about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father {Pater, Faithful Giver} for anything in My name, He will give it to you.

Up to now you have asked for nothing in My {Iesous, Prayer-Answering Lord} name; ask, and you will receive, so that your joy {chara: settled gladness} may be brought to fullness.

I have told you these things in parables {paroimiais: figurative sayings}; an hour is approaching when I will no longer use parables with you, but I will speak openly to you about the Father {pater, Revealed Through Jesus}.

In that day, you will ask in My {Iesous, Revealing Mediator} name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father {Pater, Direct Hearer} concerning you.

For the Father {Pater, Covenant Father} Himself loves you, since you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from God {Theos, Divine Origin}.

I came out from the Father {pater, Sending Source} and I have come into the world {kosmos: Created Realm}; once more, I am leaving the world and I am going to the Father.

His {Iesous, Jesus' Own} disciples said to Him, "Look, now You are speaking openly {parresia: Frank Openness}, and You are saying no proverb whatsoever."

Now we are convinced that You {Iesous, All-Knowing Lord} know everything, and You have no need for anyone to ask You; on this basis we believe that You came out from God {Theos, Sending Father}.

Jesus {Iesous, Searching Teacher} answered them, "So now you believe {pisteuete: trusting reliance}?"

Look, the hour {hora: appointed time} is coming—and has already arrived—so that you may be scattered, each to his own, and you will leave Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father {pater, Faithful Companion} is with Me.

I have spoken these things to you so that you may find peace in Me {Iesous, Peace-Bestowing Lord}; in the world you will encounter distress {thlipsin: crushing hardship}, but remain brave; I have prevailed over the world.
