Exegesis

The phrase eis to praitorion {εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον | eis to praitōrion} expresses motion into the official setting, while ho Pilatos {ὁ Πιλᾶτος | ho Pilátos} is delayed after the verb to keep the focus on the action before naming the actor.

In the closing clause, sy {Σὺ | Sy} is fronted for emphasis, and the equative statement sy ei ho basileus tōn Ioudaiōn {Σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων | Sy ei ho basileus tōn Ioudaiōn} places the royal title at the center of Pilate’s question.
