Joshua 13:2ExegesisTAB

Joshua 13 : 2 Inheritance | Remnant | Territory
2. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse opens with the demonstrative zôṯ {זֹאת | zôṯ} ‘this’ focusing on ha-ʾā-reṣ {הָאָרֶץ | ha-ʾā-reṣ} ‘the land’. The participle han-nîšʾārēṯ {הַנִּשְׁאָ֑רֶת | han-nîš-ʾā-rāṯ} ‘remaining’ qualifies the noun, narrowing it to unoccupied territory. Two coordinated construct chains—kol gə-lî-lōṯ {כָּל־גְּלִילוֹת | kol gə-lî-lōṯ} ‘all regions’ of the Philistines and wə-kol ha-ge-shu-rî {וְכָּל־הַגְּשׁוּרִי | wə-kol ha-ge-shu-rî} ‘and all the Geshurites’—use the construct state to link kol with ethnic designators. The Hebrew syntax emphasizes accumulation and cataloging, while English shifts to an SVO structure, rendering the participle with a relative clause “that remains” and preserving the parallel listing with “of” and “and.”
