3. Formal Translation From the Shihor which lies upon the face of Egypt and extends to the border of Ekron northward, it is reckoned as Canaanite territory. There are five lords of the Philistines, namely the Gazite, the Ashdodite, the Ashkelonite, the Gittite, and the Ekronite, and the Avvites. |
3. Dynamic Translation The land from the Shihor River on Egypt’s eastern flank to the northern border of Ekron is counted as Canaanite, yet governed by five Philistine chiefs from Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron—and by the Avvites. |
