Joshua 21:18ExegesisTAB

Joshua 21 : 18 Settlement | Pasture | Allocation
18. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse employs a coordinate structure introduced by the direct-object-marker et {אֶת | ʾet} with each place-name phrase. Proper nouns anatot {עֲנָתוֹת | ʿănāṯōṯ} and almon {עַלְמֹן | ʿălmôn} appear in construct with migrasheha {מִגְרָשֶׁהָ | mīgrāšehā} ‘pasturelands’, each phrase marked by the conjunction-plus-et sequence. The final expression arim arba {עָרִים אַרְבַּע | ʿārîm ʾarbaʿ} reverses noun and numeral to denote a total count, a common Hebrew summary pattern. The repetition reinforces equal status of both towns in the Levitical allotment.
