Source Text: Hebrew (WLC) Joshua 8:22:1 ⧉וְאֵ֨לֶּהveehlehand these Joshua 8:22:2 ⧉יָצְא֤וּyatsucame out Joshua 8:22:3 ⧉מִן־הָעִיר֙minhairfrom the city Joshua 8:22:4 ⧉לִקְרָאתָ֔םlikratamto meet them Joshua 8:22:5 ⧉וַיִּֽהְי֤וּvayihyuand they were Joshua 8:22:6 ⧉לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙leyisraelfor Israel Joshua 8:22:7 ⧉בַּתָּ֔וֶךְbatavehkhin the midst Joshua 8:22:8 ⧉אֵ֥לֶּהehlehthese Joshua 8:22:9 ⧉מִזֶּ֖הmizzehfrom this side Joshua 8:22:10 ⧉וְאֵ֣לֶּהveehlehand these Joshua 8:22:11 ⧉מִזֶּ֑הmizzehfrom that side Joshua 8:22:12 ⧉וַיַּכּ֣וּvayakuand they struck Joshua 8:22:13 ⧉אוֹתָ֔םotamthem Joshua 8:22:14 ⧉עַד־בִּלְתִּ֥יadbiltiuntil not Joshua 8:22:15 ⧉הִשְׁאִֽיר־ל֖וֹhisheerlohe left for him Joshua 8:22:16 ⧉שָׂרִ֥ידsareeda survivor Joshua 8:22:17 ⧉וּפָלִֽיט׃ufaleetor an escaped one |
22. Formal Translation And these came out of the city to meet them, so they were in the midst of Israel, these on this side and these on that side; and Israel struck them down until none was left to them—neither a survivor nor a fugitive. |
22. Dynamic Translation The ambushers came out of the city to confront them, and the enemy was trapped in the middle by Israelites on both sides. Israel struck them down until there was no one left alive or able to escape. |
