Exegesis

The following clause introduces et-ha-gamal {אֶת־הַגָּמָל | ʾet-ha-gā-māl} ‘the camel’ with ki-maaleh gērāh hûʾ {כִּי־מַעֲלֵה גֵרָה ה֗וּא | kî-maʿă-lê(h) gē-rā(h) hûʾ} ‘because it chews the cud’ and contrasts u-parsah enenu mafris {וּפַרְסָה אֵינֶנּוּ מַפְרִיס | ū-p̄ar-sā(h) ʾê-n(e)-nû maf-rîs} ‘but its hoof is not a splitter’.
