Two parallel construct-participles, mi-maalei {מִמַּעֲלֵי֙ | mi-maʿʿă-lê} ‘from those who chew’ and u-mi-mafrisei {וּמִמַּפְרִיסֵ֖י | ū-mi-maf-rī-sê} ‘and from those who split’, govern ha-gerah {הַגֵּרָ֔ה | ha-ḡē-rā(h)} ‘the cud’ and ha-parsah {הַפַּרְסָ֑ה | ha-p̄ar-sā(h)} ‘the hoof’, defining prohibited groups.
