Leviticus 13:11ExegesisTAB

Leviticus 13 : 11 Impurity | Diagnosis | Procedure
11. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse opens with the diagnostic term tsara'at {צָרַעַת | ṣa-rā-ʿat} ‘chronic skin disease’ followed by the participle noshenet {נוֹשֶׁנֶת | nō-še-net} ‘festering’, forming a technical assessment clause. The pronoun hi {הִוא | hî} ‘it is’ functions as a resumptive identifier. The locative phrase be-'or {בְּע֣וֹר | bə-ʿôr} ‘in skin’ with the possessive construct be-saro {בְּשָׂרוֹ | bə-sā-rô} ‘of his flesh’ specifies condition and site. The consecutive vav in we-timme'o {וְטִמְּא֖וֹ | wə-tim-me-ʾô} links to the judicial pronouncement and employs the Piel imperfect with suffix to convey priestly action. Ha-kohen {הַכֹּהֵן | ha-kō-hên} ‘the priest’ is the agent of the judgment. The prohibitive clause lo yasgirennu {לֹא יַסְגִּרֶנּוּ | lō yas-gî-ren-nû} ‘he must not isolate him’ uses the negative particle with Hiphil imperfect to forbid exclusion. The causal conjunction ki {כִּי | kî} ‘because’ introduces the rationale with tame {טָמֵא | tā-mê} ‘unclean’ and hu {הוּא | hû’} ‘he is’: isolation is redundant for the already unclean.
