The final clause kai tō thyrorō eneteilato hina gregorē {καὶ τῷ θυρωρῷ ἐνετείλατο ἵνα γρηγορῇ | kaí tṓ thu-rō-rō e-ne-teí-la-to hína grē-go-rē} places special focus on the doorkeeper, with the hina-subjunctive construction expressing purpose: the command aims “so that he might keep watch.” The English renderings preserve the temporal flow from the participles into the main verb and reflect the purpose nuance of hina by using “that he should keep watch” and “to stay awake.”
