The explanatory clause phaneron gar egeneto to onoma autou {φανερὸν γὰρ ἐγένετο τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ | pha-ne-rón gar e-gé-ne-to to Ó-no-ma au-toû} uses gar ‘for’ to ground Herod’s hearing in the fact that “His name” had become “manifest,” with the predicate adjective phaneron placed before the verb for emphasis.
