The direct address lego humin hoti {λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι | légō humîn hóti} ‘I say to you that’ introduces the conditional protasis ean dyo symphonesosin ex humon epi tēs gēs {ἐὰν δύο συμφωνήσωσιν ἐξ ὑμῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς | eán dýo symphōnḗsōsin ex humôn epí tēs gês}, where the particle ean plus aorist subjunctive symphōnḗsōsin expresses a realistic potential that two may agree on earth.
