Moses allowed divorce in response to hard hearts

The arrangement was not like that at the beginning

Moses presented this as the lasting ideal

The reason had nothing to do with the condition of the heart

Treat the concession as the long-term ideal

Let the verse push you toward humility, softness, and faithfulness

Focus only on what is allowed and ignore the condition of the heart

Assume broken relationships do not call for repentance or care

I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and trust you as my Lord and Savior. Soften me, forgive me, and lead me in your way. Amen.

Lord, revive your Church where our hearts have grown hard. Break our stubbornness, restore tenderness, and teach us to honor your good way instead of settling for lesser compromises. Make us humble, repentant, and faithful, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Father, I confess the places where my heart has become hard toward others. Forgive me for defensiveness, impatience, and self-protection. Soften me, teach me to listen, and help me walk in your better way, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Begin by naming one relationship where you feel defensive. Ask God to show you any hardness in your heart, to give you humility, and to guide your next conversation so it reflects his good way.

Lord, we lift up marriages and relationships under strain. Where hearts have hardened, bring repentance; where bitterness has settled in, bring mercy; where decisions feel painful, bring wisdom and patient help. Restore what has been damaged and lead people toward faithfulness, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
