1 And it happened, when Jesus {Iesous, Teaching Lord} had finished these words, He moved away from Galilee and went into the region {horia: border district} of Judea beyond the Jordan.
2 And great crowds followed Him, and He {Iesous, Mighty Healer} healed them there {ekei: in that place}.
3 And Pharisees came to Him {Iesous, Questioned Teacher}, putting Him to the test {peirazontes: hostile challenge}, and saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for every cause?”
4 But He {Iesous, Divine Teacher} answered and said, “Have you not read that the One who created them from the beginning made them male and female {thely: female counterpart}?”
5 And He {Iesous, Divine Teacher} said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife {gyne: covenant partner}, and the two will become one flesh”?
6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God {Theos, Divine Unifier} has joined together, let not man separate {chorizeto: divide or part}.
7 They said to Him {Iesous, Questioned Teacher}, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate {biblion: official document} of divorce and to send her away?"
8 He said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart {sklerokardia: spiritual stubbornness}, Moses permitted you to divorce {apolyo: send away spouse} your wives, but from the beginning it has not been this way.”
9 But I say to you, that whoever divorces his wife, except on account of sexual immorality {porneia: unlawful sexual activity}, and marries another, commits adultery. And whoever marries the one who has been divorced also commits adultery {moichatai: marital unfaithfulness}.
10 The disciples said to Him {Iesous, Authoritative Teacher}, “If this is the case {aitia: legal grounds} of the man with the woman, it is not beneficial to marry.”
11 But He {Iesous, Discerning Teacher} said to them, “Not everyone can accept this word {logon: challenging teaching}, but only those to whom it has been given.”
12 For there are eunuchs {eunouchos: sexually celibate men} who were born that way from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to accept {chōrein: fully receive this teaching} this accept it.
13 Then children were brought to Him {Iesous, Caring Intercessor} so that He might lay His hands on them and pray. But the disciples rebuked {epetimesan: sharp correction} those who brought them.
14 But Jesus {Iesous, Child Welcoming Lord} said, “Allow the children {paidia: young children} to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of the heavens belongs to such as these.”
15 And after laying His hands on them, He {Iesous, Blessing Giver} departed from there {ekeithen: that place}.
16 And behold, one who had come to Him {Iesous, Approached Teacher} said, “Teacher, what good thing {agathon: morally excellent act} shall I do so that I may have eternal life?”
17 But He {Iesous, Wise Teacher} said to him, “Why do you ask Me about the good? There is One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments {entole: divinely given instructions}.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?” But Jesus {Iesous, Divine Teacher} said, “This: ‘You shall not murder {phoneuseis: unlawful killing}, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness.’”
19 Honor your father and your mother, and you shall love your neighbor {plesion: nearby fellow} as yourself {seauton: your own life}.
20 The young man said to Him {Iesous, Heart-Searching Teacher}, “All these things I have kept {ephylaxa: carefully observed}; what do I still lack?”
21 Jesus {Iesous, Demanding Lord} said to him, “If you desire to be perfect {teleios: spiritually complete}, go, sell your possessions, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
22 But when the young man heard the statement, he went away sorrowful {lypoumenos: deeply grieved}, for he was one who had many possessions {ktemata: valuable properties}.
23 But Jesus {Iesous, Kingdom Teacher} said to His disciples, “Truly {Amen: solemn assurance}, I say to you that a rich person will enter into the kingdom of the heavens with difficulty.”
24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the hole of a needle than for a rich person {plousios: wealth-attached heart} to enter into the kingdom of God {Theos, Righteous King}.
25 But when the disciples {mathetai: learning followers} heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then is able to be saved {sothenai: rescued by God}?”
26 But Jesus {Iesous, Faithful Teacher} looked at them and said, “With people this is impossible, but with God {Theos, Sovereign Enabler} all things are possible.”
27 Then Peter {Petros: Leading Disciple} answered and said to Him {Iesous, Rewarding Lord}, “Behold, we have left all things and have followed You; what then will there be for us?”
28 But Jesus {Iesous, Faithful Reward-Giver} said to them, “Truly, I tell you, in the regeneration, when the Son of Man {huios tou anthropou, Enthroned Judge} sits on His throne of glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for the sake of My {Iesous, Worthy Master} name will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life {zoe: unending fellowship}.
30 But many {polloi: numerous in number} who are first {protoi: holding leading status} will be last, and the last will be first.
