They admit they were part of the killing of the prophets

They say they would have protected the prophets

They are talking about rebuilding the temple

Let it lead you into honest self-examination and repentance

Use it to prove your group is better than the people before you

Treat it as an interesting idea and leave your life unchanged

Focus only on the failures of earlier generations

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and often defended myself instead of telling the truth. I turn from my sin and from every proud word that hides what is real. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I confess you as Lord, and I ask you to lead me in honesty, humility, and obedience. Amen.

Come to Jesus in Humility

Lord, revive your Church from empty claims of innocence. Teach us to hear your word, honor the truth your prophets bring, and repent quickly when you correct us. Make us humble, faithful, and ready to stand with what is right, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Revive Your Church in Truth

Father, I confess the ways I excuse myself, compare myself to others, and distance myself from guilt. Strip away my defensiveness and give me a clean and truthful heart. Let me receive your correction without arguing, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Deliver Me from Self-Defense

Begin by naming one place where you are tempted to say, 'I would never do that.' Ask God to show you what is true, then ask him for the humility to receive correction and the courage to change.

Pray the Verse Honestly

Thank God for the prophets and for every word that exposes self-deception. Thank him that he does not leave us in our excuses, but calls us into truth, repentance, and mercy.

Thank God for Truthful Warning

Pray for people who speak hard truth in difficult places, and for communities that are tempted to rewrite their past. Ask God to give them courage to listen, humility to respond, and grace to turn from self-protective words.
