The man who had been entrusted with a single talent

He describes the master as severe and exacting.

He says the master takes in a crop from land he did not plant.

He says the master gathers produce where he did not scatter seed.

He says the master only rewards people who bring in extra.

Own what you have been given and speak honestly before the master.

Blame the master so you can avoid looking at your own choices.

Wait until you feel fully safe before taking responsibility.

Keep a respectful tone while holding on to your excuses.

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and have often blamed others instead of turning to you. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and receive you as my Lord and Savior. Give me a humble heart and teach me to trust your goodness. Amen.

Receive Jesus as Lord

Lord, revive your Church where we have become fearful, defensive, and quick to excuse ourselves. Free us from speaking about you with suspicion, and make us faithful with every gift you entrust to us. Give us honesty, courage, and humble obedience, and send us into the world with trust in your goodness, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Revive Us from Fear and Blame

Father, I confess that I have hidden behind blame, fear, and half-truths. Forgive me for the ways I have protected myself instead of owning my part. Cleanse my heart, steady my speech, and teach me to walk in honest responsibility, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Forgive My Excuses

Give thanks for: the gifts God has entrusted to you; the patience that allows a new start; the chance to respond faithfully instead of fearfully.

Grateful for Entrusted Gifts

Pray by naming one place where you have been making excuses, then ask God to show you the truth, replace fear with trust, and help you take one faithful step today.

Pray for Honest Stewardship

Pray for: anyone who sees God as harsh; people who are paralyzed by fear of failure; believers learning to speak about God with accuracy and trust; courage to respond to God's gifts with faithfulness.
