He sees them as spiritually dangerous and corrupt

He sees them as already safe and approved

He sees them as merely uninformed seekers

He sees them as faithful but misunderstood

John noticed many Pharisees and Sadducees

John asked who had warned them to escape the approaching wrath

Humbling yourself before God and turning from sin

Relying on a religious label or background to prove you're safe

Arguing that your good standing means no warning applies to you

Keeping the outside routine unchanged while ignoring the heart

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and that I cannot save myself. I turn from my sin and ask you to have mercy on me. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I confess you as Lord, and I trust you to lead me out of judgment and into life. Thank you for saving me. Amen.

Mercy Before the Judgment

Lord, wake your Church from presumption and shallow religion. Where we have trusted appearances, labels, or routine, give us humility, honest repentance, and hearts that listen when you warn us. Make us a people who turn quickly to you, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Wake Us to Repentance

Name one place where you may be relying on outward religion, reputation, or habit. Ask God to show you the truth, to forgive what is sinful, and to lead you into a humble response today.

Pray Through the Warning

Pray for pastors, teachers, and church leaders to speak clearly about sin and judgment, to resist flattery, and to call people to repentance with courage and compassion.

For Leaders Who Speak the Truth

Father, thank you that you do not leave people unaware of coming judgment. Thank you for speaking plainly, for warning in mercy, and for giving time to turn back to you. Keep us grateful and responsive, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank You for Warning Us

Bring these to God: any confidence you place in your background or religious routine; any pride that resists correction; any fear of being exposed. Ask him to give you a humble, truthful heart.
