Proverbs 7:21ExegesisTAB

Proverbs 7 : 21 Seduction | Persuasion | Speech
21. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse uses synonymous parallelism in two causative clauses. The first clause opens with hittatu {הִ֭טַּתּוּ | hiṭ-ṭā-tû} ‘she caused him to yield,’ a Hiphil perfect indicating completed causation, followed by the instrumental phrase berov likchah {בְּרֹב לִקְחָהּ | bə-rōv liq-ḥāh} ‘by the abundance of her persuasion,’ where likchah ‘persuasion’ denotes persuasive influence. The second clause mirrors this pattern with tadichennu {תַּדִּיחֶנּוּ | ta-ddi-ḥe-nû} ‘she leads him astray’ in the Hiphil imperfect, signalling ongoing action, and the prepositional phrase bechelek sefatéha {בְּחֵלֶק שְׂפָתֶיהָ | bə-ḥē-lek sə-p̄ā-te-hā} ‘with the smoothness of her lips,’ highlighting a verbal instrument. This structure emphasizes two complementary means by which the woman exerts seductive control.
