Psalms 18:20ExegesisTAB

Psalm 18 : 20 Reward | Righteousness | Restoration
20. Linguistic Exegesis
yigmeleni {יִגְמְלֵנִי | yigmə-lē-nî} ‘he rewards me’ in Qal imperfect opens the verse in VSO order, foregrounding divine action before the subject Yahweh {יְהוָה | Yə-hō-wāh}. Two synonymous prepositional phrases, ketsidqi {כְּצִדְקִי | kə-tsiḏ-qî} ‘according to my righteousness’ and kebor {כְּבֹר | kə-ḇōr} yadai {יָדַי | yā-ḏay} ‘according to the cleanness of my hands’, specify the basis for recompense through parallelism. The Hifil imperfect yashiv {יָשִׁיב | yā-šîḇ} ‘he restores’ with beneficiary li {לִי | lī} ‘to me’ shifts to SVO in translation, preserving Hebrew balance and moral emphasis.
