Exegesis

The object tó méros autoû {τό μέρος αὐτοῦ | tó méros autoû} “that person’s portion” is then qualified by two prepositional phrases: apó tou xýlou tês zōês {ἀπὸ τοῦ ξύλου τῆς ζωῆς | apó tou xýlou tês zōês} “from the tree of life” and ek tês póleōs tês hagías {ἐκ τῆς πόλεως τῆς ἁγίας | ek tês póleōs tês hagías} “out of the holy city.” The use of apo versus ek highlights separation and exclusion from eschatological blessings.

In contextRevelation 22:19

And if anyone removes any words from the book of this prophecy, God will remove that person’s portion from the tree of life and from the holy city, from what is recorded in this book.
