The coordinated clauses wehecheziku ish yad reʿehu {וְהֶחֱזִיקוּ אִישׁ יַד רֵעֵהוּ | wə-he-ḥĕ-zî-qû ʾîš yād rē-ʿê-hû} ‘and they will seize the hand of a neighbor’ and vealatah yado al yad reʿehu {וְעָלְתָה יָד֖וֹ עַל־יַד רֵעֵהוּ | wə-ʿāl-tāh ya-dô ʿal yād rē-ʿê-hû} ‘and a hand will arise against another’ depict reciprocal aggression highlighting social collapse.
