Exegesis

The causal conjunction ki-hayu {כִּי־הָי֥וּ | kî-hā-yû} ‘because they were’ introduces the participial clause ha-anashim nikhlamim meod {הָאֲנָשִׁים֖ נִכְלָמִים֣ מְאֹד | hā-ʾănāšîm nîḵlāmîm meʾōḏ} ‘the men were humiliated very’ describing their state.
