3. Formal Translation The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three were born to him by the daughter of Shua, the Canaanite. Now Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the eyes of the LORD {Yahweh, Moral Arbiter}, and He put him to death. |
3. Dynamic Translation Judah’s sons were Er, Onan, and Shelah—three children born to him by Shua’s Canaanite daughter. But Er, the oldest son of Judah, did wrong in the LORD’s {Yahweh, Righteous Judge} sight, so the LORD took his life. |
