Formal Translation And it happened, at the time of the returning of the year, at the time of the going out of the kings, that Joab led the force of the army and devastated the land of the sons of Ammon. Then he came and besieged Rabbah. But David was staying in Jerusalem. And Joab struck Rabbah and overthrew it. |
| 1. Dynamic Translation When kings go out as the year turns, Joab led out the army and laid waste the land of the Ammonites. He advanced and put Rabbah under siege, while David stayed in Jerusalem. Joab attacked Rabbah and tore it down. |
