1 For the divisions {machlekot: scheduled groups} of the gatekeepers, among the Korahites: Meshelemiah son of Kore, from the sons of Asaph {Asaf: appointed singer}.
2 And for Meshelemiah, there were sons {banim: male descendants}: Zechariah the firstborn {bekhor: eldest son}, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth.
3 Elam {eilam: Obed-edom son} the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, Eliehoenai {elyehoenai: last listed here} the seventh.
4 And the sons {banim: male offspring} of Obed-Edom were Shemaiah the firstborn {habbekhor: bearer of primary inheritance}, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sakar the fourth, and Nethanel the fifth.
5 Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peullatai the eighth, for God {Elohim, Blessing Bestower} blessed {berakho: richly favored} him.
6 And to Shemaiah, his son, sons were born who served as household rulers {mimshalim: household administrators} in their father’s house because they were mighty men of valor {giborei chayil: men of exceptional strength}.
7 The sons {bnei: family designation} of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad. His brothers Elihu and Semakhyahu were men of strength {chayil: valiant warriors}.
8 All these were from the sons of Obed-Edom; they, their sons, and their brothers were men of valor {chayil: proven men}, strong for the service {avodah: assigned duty}—sixty-two for Obed-Edom.
9 Meshelemiah’s sons and brothers—men of valor {chayil: ability and strength}—were eighteen {shmonah asar: numerical total} in all.
10 And to Hosah, from the sons of Merari, there were sons: Shimri was the chief {rosh: head leader}, for though he was not the firstborn {bekhor: eldest son}, his father appointed him chief.
11 Hilkiah the second, Tabaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth. All the sons and brothers of Hosah {Hosah: family head} were thirteen {sheloshah asar: numerical total} in all.
12 These divisions {mahleqot: structured teams} of the gatekeepers, through the heads of the men, had watches corresponding to their brothers, to minister in the house of the LORD {YHWH, Covenant LORD}.
13 And they cast lots {goralot: sacred lots} as the small as the great, for the house of their fathers {avotam: ancestral lineages}, for every gate.
14 The lot fell eastward to Meshelemiah, and for Zechariah his son, a counselor with insight {sekhel: sound understanding}, they cast lots, and his lot came out northward {tsafonah: north direction}.
15 For Obed-Edom, southward {negbah: toward south}; and for his sons, the House of the Asuppim {asuppim: storehouse gate}.
16 To Shuppim and to Hosah the lot came forth westward {ma‘arav: direction of the setting sun}, by the Shalleketh Gate on the ascent; guard {mishmar: station of continual watch} opposite guard.
17 To the east, the Levites {haleviyim: tribal servants set apart for temple service} were six; to the north, for the day, four; to the south, for the day, four; and to the storehouses {asuppim: rooms for temple treasures and supplies} two by two.
18 For the parbar {parbar: temple colonnade} on the west, four were at the causeway {mesillah: raised roadway}, and two were at the parbar.
19 These were the divisions {makhaleqot: organized groups} of the gatekeepers {ha-shoarim: temple servants} for the sons of the Korahite and for the sons of Merari.
20 And Ahijah of the Levites was over the treasuries of the house of God {ha-Elohim, Temple Sovereign} and over the treasuries of the holy things {kodashim: sacred objects}.
21 The sons {bnei: descendants} of La‘dan the Gershonite {gershuni: Levitical clan} were the chiefs of the ancestral households of La‘dan the Gershonite: Jehieli.
22 The sons of Jehieli, Zetham and Joel his brother, were over the treasuries {otzrot: sacred storerooms} of the house of the LORD {YHWH, Divine Owner}.
23 Of the Amramites {amrami: Amram’s line}, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites {azzieli: Uzziel’s line}.
24 And Shebuel {Shebuel: official overseer}, son of Gershom, son of Moses, was leader over the treasuries {otzarot: storehouses for sacred gifts}.
25 And his brothers {echav: close kinsmen} by Eliezer were Rechabiah {rechavyahu: expansion/blessing} his son; Jeshaiah his son; Joram his son; Zikri his son; and Shelomith his son.
26 Shelomoth {shelomot: chief steward} and his brothers were over all the treasuries {otzrot: storehouses for offerings} of the sacred items that King David and the heads of ancestral families, the commanders of thousands, the commanders of hundreds, and the officers of the army had dedicated.
27 From the wars and from the spoil {shalal: war booty} they dedicated for the strengthening of the house of the LORD {YHWH, Sanctuary Provider}.
28 All that Samuel the seer {ro’eh: prophetic official}, Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah dedicated, all the dedicated items were under the hand {yad: administrative authority} of Shelomith and his brothers.
29 To the Izharite, Kenaniah and his sons were assigned the external work {hachitzonah: non-cultic duties} over Israel as officers {leshotrim: administrative officials} and judges.
30 For the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers—sons of valor numbering one thousand seven hundred—were over the oversight of Israel west of the Jordan, for all the work of the LORD {YHWH, Sacred Service} and the service of the king {melekh: royal authority}.
31 Jeriah {yeri-yah: personal name} was the chief of the Hebronites according to their genealogical records. In the fortieth year of David’s reign a search was made, and among them mighty men {chayil: capacity for leadership and courage} of valor were found at Jazer in Gilead.
32 And his brothers, men of valor {bnei-chayil: military elite}, were two thousand seven hundred chiefs of the fathers; and King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh for every matter of God {Elohim: divine governance} and of the king.
