1 Corinthians 15:27ExegesisTAB

1 Corinthians 15 : 27 Subjection | Authority | Exclusion
27. Linguistic Exegesis
The verse begins with the object–conjunction–verb sequence panta gar hypetaxen {πάντα γὰρ ὑπέταξεν | pán-ta gár hy-pé-ta-xen} ‘for he subjected all things’, foregrounding the totality of panta ‘all things’. The spatial image of hypo tous podas autou {ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ | hy-pó toús pó-das au-toú} conveys thorough subjection under feet, echoing enthronement language. The temporal clause hotan de eipē {ὅταν δὲ εἴπῃ | hó-tan dé eí-pē} introduces a contingent statement, rendered impersonally as “when it is said,” followed by the reported clause with hypotetaktai {ὑποτέτακται | hy-po-té-tak-tai}, a perfect passive indicating a completed action with ongoing significance. The impersonal predicate dēlon hoti {δῆλον ὅτι | dé-lon hó-ti} ‘it is evident that’ draws an inference from the preceding statement. Finally, the exception clause ektos tou hypotaxantos autō ta panta {ἐκτὸς τοῦ ὑποτάξαντος αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα | ek-tós toú hy-po-táx-an-tos au-tō tá pán-ta} clarifies that the subjecting Agent is not included among the subjected, with the genitive participle hypotaxantos marking the Agent and autō marking the recipient.
