20. Formal Translation If someone declares “I love God {Theos, Standard of Love},” yet hates his brother, he is a liar; for the person who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God, whom he has not seen. |
20. Dynamic Translation If someone claims to love God but hates his brother, that person is a liar, because the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God {Theos, Unseen One Loved} whom he has not seen. |
