Exegesis

The Qal perfect sham’u {שָׁמְעוּ | šā-ma-’û} introduces the content clause ki-nasu {כִּי־נָסוּ | kî-nā-sû} ‘that they had fled,’ reporting Pelishtim {פְּלִשְׁתִּים | pe-li-šā-ṯîm}.
