1 Samuel 20:3:1וַיִּשָּׁבַ֨עvayishshavaand he swore
1 Samuel 20:3:2ע֜וֹדodagain 1 Samuel 20:3:3דָּוִ֗דdavidDavid 1 Samuel 20:3:4וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vayomerand he said 1 Samuel 20:3:5יָדֹ֤עַyadoaknowing well 1 Samuel 20:3:6יָדַ֙עַ֙yadaahe knows 1 Samuel 20:3:7אָבִ֔יךָavikhayour father 1 Samuel 20:3:8כִּֽי־מָצָ֨אתִיkimatsatithat I have found 1 Samuel 20:3:9חֵ֜ןkhenfavor 1 Samuel 20:3:10בְּעֵינֶ֣יךָbeenekhain your eyes 1 Samuel 20:3:11וַיֹּ֣אמֶרvayomerand he said 1 Samuel 20:3:12אַל־יֵֽדַע־זֹאתalyedazotlet not this be known 1 Samuel 20:3:13יְהוֹנָתָ֖ןyehonatanJonathan 1 Samuel 20:3:14פֶּן־יֵֽעָצֵ֑בpenyeatsevlest he be grieved 1 Samuel 20:3:15וְאוּלָ֗םveulambut truly 1 Samuel 20:3:16חַי־יְהוָה֙khaiyahwehas the LORD lives 1 Samuel 20:3:17וְחֵ֣יvekheiand as lives 1 Samuel 20:3:18נַפְשֶׁ֔ךָnafshekhayour soul 1 Samuel 20:3:19כִּ֣יkithat 1 Samuel 20:3:20כְּפֶ֔שַׂעkefesaas a step 1 Samuel 20:3:21בֵּינִ֖יbenibetween me 1 Samuel 20:3:22וּבֵ֥יןuveinand between 1 Samuel 20:3:23הַמָּֽוֶת׃hamavetthe death
3. Formal Translation
And David swore and said, “Only your father knows that I have found favor in your eyes, and he says, ‘Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved on my account.’ Yet truly, as I live, there is but a step between my life and death.”
3. Dynamic Translation
David swore and said, “Your father certainly knows that I have won your favor, and he has decided, ‘Jonathan must not know this or he will be distressed.’ But as surely as I live, I am only one step from death.”
