   and he gathered Amaziah {direct object marker} Judah and he set them by house of fathers to commanders of the thousands and to commanders of the hundreds for all Judah and Benjamin and he mustered them from a son of twenty year and upward and he found them three hundred thousand choice young man going out army or host holding spear and shield

Exegesis

The Hiphil vayya‘ămîḏēm {וַיַּֽעֲמִידֵ֣ם | wayya‘ămîḏēm} ‘and he set them up’ introduces hierarchical structuring with the construct chain ləḇēṯ-’āḇōṯ {לְבֵית־אָב֗וֹת | ləḇēṯ-’āḇōṯ} ‘house of fathers’ modifying ləśārê hā-’ălāp̄îm ū-ləśārê hammē’ōṯ {לְשָׂרֵי הָאֲלָפִים וּלְשָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת | ləśārê hā-’ălāp̄îm ū-ləśārê hammē’ōṯ} ‘commanders of thousands and of hundreds’.
