2 Kings 21:18ExegesisTAB

2 Kings 21 : 18 Death | Burial | Succession
18. Linguistic Exegesis
The narrative uses the sequential vav-consecutive forms wayyiskav {וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב | wayyiskav} “and he lay down” and wayyiqqaver {וַיִּקָּבֵ֥ר | wayyiqqaver} “and he was buried” to structure events. The prepositional phrase im-avotav {עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו | im-avotav} indicates burial “with his fathers.” Construct phrases be-gan-beito {בְּגַן־בֵּית֖וֹ | be-gan-beito} and be-gan-uzza {בְּגַן־עֻזָּ֑א | be-gan-uzza} specify the burial location. Finally, wayyimlokh {וַיִּמְלֹ֛וךְ | wayyimlokh} with takhtav {תַּחְתָּֽיו | takhtav} marks dynastic succession from Manasseh to Amon.
