1 And the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Speaker} spoke to Moses, saying {leimor: divine speech formula},
2 On the first day of the first month, you shall set up the tabernacle {mishkan: portable sanctuary}, the tent of meeting {moed: appointed gathering}.
3 And you shall set there the ark of the testimony {edut: covenant tablets} and you shall screen {sakota: ceremonial barrier} the ark with the curtain.
4 And you shall bring in the table and put it in order {erkho: prescribed arrangement}; then you shall bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps {neroteha: ritual lights}.
5 And you shall place the altar {mizbeach: sacred offering place} of gold for incense in front of the ark of the testimony, and you shall set up the screen {masakh: woven screen} at the entrance to the tabernacle.
6 And you shall place the altar of burnt offering before the entrance of the tabernacle {mishkan: dwelling place}, the tent of meeting {ohel moed: appointed gathering}.
7 And you shall place the basin {kiyor: large washing vessel} between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water {mayim: purifying element} there.
8 And you shall set up the courtyard {hehatser: Sacred Enclosure} all around, and you shall put the screen {masakh: Woven Screen} at the gate of the courtyard.
9 And you shall take the anointing oil {mishchah: consecrating oil} and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it; and you shall consecrate it and all its vessels, and it shall be holy {kodesh: set apart for sacred use}.
10 And you shall anoint the altar {mizbeach: sacrificial platform} of burnt offering and all its utensils, and you shall consecrate {kiddashta: set apart} the altar, and the altar shall be most holy.
11 You shall anoint the basin {kiyor: washing vessel} and its stand, and you shall consecrate {kiddashta: set apart as holy} it.
12 And you shall bring near Aaron and his sons to the entrance {petach: sacred gateway} of the tent of meeting, and you shall wash them in the water {mayim: ritual purification}.
13 And you shall clothe Aaron {Aharon: first high priest} with the holy garments, and you shall anoint him and consecrate him so that he may serve as priest for Me {li: designated recipient}.
14 And you shall bring his sons {banav: male descendants}, and you shall clothe them in tunics {kutonot: priestly garments}.
15 And you shall anoint them just as you anointed their father, and they shall serve Me {YHWH, Priestly Sovereign} as priests. And their anointing shall be for them a priesthood {likhunat: sacred office} everlasting throughout their generations.
16 Moses did everything exactly as the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Instructor} commanded {tsivvah: authoritative mandate}.
17 And it happened in the first month of the second year, on the first of the month, that the tabernacle {mishkan: portable sanctuary} was set up {hukam: established structure}.
18 Then Moses set up the tabernacle {mishkan: sacred dwelling}, placed its bases {adan: foundation sockets}, set its boards, placed its crossbars, and set up its pillars
19 And he spread the tent over the tabernacle, and he placed the covering of the tent upon it from above, just as the LORD {YHWH, Command Giver} had commanded Moses {Mosheh: Prophet-Leader}
20 And he took the testimony{edut: covenant code} and placed it inside the ark, set the poles on the ark, and put the atonement cover{kapporet: atonement lid} upon the ark from above.
21 And he brought the ark {aron: sacred chest} into the tabernacle, and he placed the veil of the screen, and he covered over the ark of the testimony just as the LORD {YHWH, Divine Commander} commanded Moses.
22 He placed the table in the tent of meeting {ohel moed: sacred assembly place} on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the curtain {parokhet: inner veil}.
23 And he arranged the arrangement {erekh: ritual display} of bread upon it before the LORD {YHWH, Sacred Presence}, just as the LORD commanded Moses.
24 And he placed the lampstand {menorah: seven-branched lampstand} in the tent of meeting {moed: assembly place}, opposite the table, on the south side of the tabernacle.
25 And he set up the lamps before the LORD {YHWH, Sanctuary King}, as the LORD had commanded Moses {Mosheh: Appointed Servant}.
26 And he placed the golden altar {mizbeach: incense altar} in the tent of meeting, before the curtain {paroket: sacred veil}.
27 And he burned fragrant incense {ketoret: smoke-offering} upon it, just as the LORD {YHWH, Worship Regulator} commanded Moses.
28 And he placed the screen{masakh: woven partition} at the entrance{petach: designated opening} to the tabernacle.
29 And he set the altar of burnt offering at the entrance {petach: doorway} of the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and he offered upon it the burnt offering and the grain offering, as the LORD {YHWH, Worship Commander} had commanded Moses.
30 And he placed the basin {kiyor: ritual vessel} between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and he put water there for washing {le-rakhtsah: ceremonial purification}.
31 And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands {yad: instrument of service} and their feet {regel: stability for movement} from it.
32 Whenever they entered the tent of meeting or approached the altar, they would wash {yirchats: ritual cleansing} as the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Instructor} had commanded Moses.
33 And he set up the courtyard {hechatser: outer enclosure} all around the tabernacle and the altar, and he put the curtain {masak: woven partition} at the gate of the courtyard. Then Moses finished the work.
34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD {YHWH, Sovereign Indweller} filled the tabernacle {mishkan: sacred dwelling}.
35 And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud {heanan: visible divine presence} had settled upon it, and the glory of the LORD {YHWH, Majestic Revealer} filled the tabernacle.
36 And whenever the cloud {he'anan: visible guiding presence} rose from above the tabernacle {mishkan: sacred dwelling}, the sons of Israel would set out on all their journeys.
37 But if the cloud {anan: visible sign} did not ascend, they did not set out {yis’u: communal departure} until the day it ascended.
38 For the cloud of the LORD {YHWH, Visible Guide} was over the tabernacle {mishkan: dwelling sanctuary} by day, and fire was in it by night in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout their journeys.
