Their own instinct, even without looking at his actions

Jesus says he does the works being discussed.

Some hearers may still refuse to trust him.

The purpose is to help them know and discern the truth.

The Father and Jesus are separate and unrelated.

People must wait for flawless proof before believing.

Give his actions careful attention and let them lead you toward trust.

Wait until every question disappears before you believe.

Separate what he does from who he claims to be.

Measure him only by whether other people already agree.

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and tried to live without you. I turn from my sin and from relying on myself. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. Help me trust you, and let your works and your life reveal the Father to me. I receive you as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Trust the One His Works Reveal

Lord, revive your Church to trust your Son with whole hearts. Where we have demanded proof on our own terms, turn us back to the works of Jesus, and let those works lead us to know and recognize your presence in him. Make us a people who point the doubtful to Christ and live with fresh faith, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew the Church's Trust

Begin by naming one work of Jesus that strengthens your trust. Ask God to show you what that work reveals about the Father and about the Son, and then tell him one honest question you still carry.

Pray Through What Jesus Does

Give thanks for the way Jesus' actions reveal who he is. Thank God for a witness that meets doubt with truth, for works that point beyond themselves, and for the shared life of the Father and the Son made visible in Christ.

Thank God for Clear Witness

Pray for people who struggle to believe Jesus: that they would notice his works, ask honest questions, and recognize that those works are meant to lead them toward faith. Pray for gentleness and patience as you speak about him.

For Those Who Are Slow to Trust

Bring before God the places where your trust feels weak. Ask him to help you pay attention to Jesus' works, to keep you from demanding control, and to let what he reveals shape your next step.
