They had been staying with Mary in the house.

They followed Mary after she rose and left.

They knew for certain where she was headed.

Wait until they ask before you offer any support.

Explain why they are probably reacting the wrong way.

Stay close and keep accompanying them respectfully.

Tell other people what happened so they can judge the situation.

Lord, revive your Church to stay near the hurting, to comfort those who weep, and to follow grief with tenderness instead of distance. Make us present, patient, and compassionate, so the lonely are not left alone and your love is seen in us, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Make Your Church Tender Again

Father, when I am hurting or when someone I love is grieving, help me receive your nearness and the quiet comfort of faithful people. Teach me not to run from sorrow, but to walk through it with hope, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Pray by naming one person who is grieving, one way you can stay close to them, and one assumption you need to let go of. Then ask God for a gentle, steady heart that knows how to be present.

Pray for: someone you know who is quietly mourning; companions who can stay with them without rushing them; wisdom to know when to follow, listen, and simply be present.

For Those Who Are Mourning

Bring thanks for the people who have stayed near you in hard seasons; thank God for their quiet comfort; ask for grace to become that kind of companion for someone else.
