The one who teaches them and has authority over them

A helpful adviser whose words can be ignored when inconvenient

A religious leader with no claim on their obedience

A prophet whose role is only to announce messages

Listening for his instruction and yielding to it

Admiring his wisdom while keeping final authority for yourself

Respecting him as a good example but treating his words as optional

Speaking honorably about him without changing your choices

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and gone my own way. I need you as my Teacher and Lord. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and trust you to lead my life. Take your rightful place in me and make me yours. Amen.

Receive Jesus as Teacher and Lord

Lord, revive your Church so we do not merely call you our Teacher and Lord with words. Give us humble hearts that welcome your instruction, bow to your authority, and obey you with joy. Restore reverence, clear away compromise, and make our lives match our confession, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew the Church's Surrender

Bring these thanks to God: that Jesus is not hidden or vague, that he truly guides us as Teacher, and that he truly reigns as Lord. Thank him that his self-understanding is clear and trustworthy.

Thanks for Jesus' Clear Identity

Pray by naming one area where you need Jesus to teach you. Ask him to show you the next act of obedience, and to give you the willingness to follow it today.

Pray for a Teachable Heart

Pray for someone who treats Jesus as only a wise teacher or a distant helper. Ask God to reveal Jesus as the one with authority, and to draw that person into honest trust and obedience.

Open Eyes to Who Jesus Is

Lord, shape my choices under your instruction. Where I resist your words, soften me; where I ignore your authority, correct me; where I have only spoken about you, help me actually follow you, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
