The first hoti {ὅτι | hó-ti} clause gives the reason: ou theorei auto oude ginōskei {οὐ θεωρεῖ αὐτὸ οὐδὲ γινώσκει | ou the-ō-reî au-tò ou-dé gi-nṓ-skei} pairs sight and knowledge as linked forms of non-recognition, reinforced by the negative coordination.
