Because he has made known everything he heard from the Father

Because they already understood everything on their own

Because friendship means they no longer need to listen

Because they earned a higher rank by working harder

Listen carefully, trust his words, and let them guide your choices

Admire his teaching, but treat it as optional advice

Keep him at a distance and wait until you understand everything

Assume closeness to Jesus means you no longer need to learn

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned and kept my distance from you. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and trust you as my Lord. Thank you for bringing me near and making me your own. Amen.

Come Near, Lord Jesus

Lord, revive your Church so we no longer live like distant servants but like people who know your heart. Draw us near to your voice, make us faithful to what you reveal, and let our love for you be warm, humble, and obedient. Awaken us to walk closely with you, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Make Us a Listening Church

Thank God for the gift of being drawn near, for Jesus' willingness to make the Father's heart known, and for the relief of not being left at a distance.

Thank You for Calling Us Friends

Name one area where you still feel distant from Jesus. Ask him to replace fear with trust, to help you hear his words clearly, and to show you one act of obedience today.

Pray for Closeness

Father, thank you that Jesus reveals what he has heard from you. Teach me to listen carefully, receive his truth with trust, and let his words guide my choices today, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Grow in Trusting His Word

Pray for someone who feels far from God, for courage to share Jesus' trustworthiness with them, and for the kind of friendship that helps them hear his voice.
