Exegesis

The clause hoti ouk oidasin {ὅτι οὐκ οἴδασιν | hóti ouk oídasin} ‘because they do not know’ moves from outward action to inward reason, and ton pempsanta me {τὸν πέμψαντά με | tòn pémpsantá me} ‘the One who sent Me’ identifies the Father through His sending of the Son. The syntax therefore links persecution to ignorance: rejection of the Son flows from rejection of the Sender.

In contextJohn 15:21

Yet they will do all of this to you on account of My name , since they do not know the One who sent Me.
