Exegesis

The phrase en tō onomati mou {ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου | en tō onomatí mou} can syntactically attach to the asking or to the giving, but in English it is more natural to link it with the petition while still preserving the sense that the Father’s gift comes through Jesus’ authority and identity. The verse as a whole moves from the end of direct questioning of Jesus to confident access to the Father through prayer.
