Why she came there and how long she has waited

Whether she recognizes the gardener and the people with her

Ask gentle, honest questions and pay attention to the person’s pain

Explain the reasons for the loss before listening

Keep your distance so you do not say the wrong thing

Assume you already know what they need and act right away

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I come to you with my grief and my sin. I admit that I have wandered and cannot save myself. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my sin and trust you as my Lord. Meet me in my confusion, forgive me, and lead me to yourself. Amen.

Come to the One Who Sees You

Lord, awaken your Church to notice tears, to ask careful questions, and to stay near the hurting. Where we have been rushed, detached, or self-protective, soften us. Make us a people who reflect your tender attention to those who grieve and seek, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew Your Church in Compassion

Father, when I do not understand what is happening, meet me with your patient care. Help me bring my questions honestly to you, and give me peace in the middle of uncertainty, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Pray by naming one question you are carrying right now. Ask Jesus to meet you in it, help you tell the truth about what you feel, and show you one gentle next step.

Pray for: one grieving person you know; patient words and quiet presence for those who love them; and a willingness in the Church to listen before trying to fix pain.

For Someone Who Is Grieving

Give thanks for Jesus’ attentive care, and ask for a heart that notices tears, a mouth that asks gentle questions, and the courage to stay present with people who are hurting.
